Work Exposure and Work Placement Programs in Schools involving Group Training Organisations

Work Exposure and Work Placement Programs in Schools involving Group Training Organisations is a three part report commissioned in October 2012 by the then Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) to identify the characteristics of good practice in facilitating work placements for school students.

The report is based on the work of group training organisations (GTOs) with school students in Years 9-10 and 11-12, and is divided into three separate sections:

Work Exposure and Work Placement Programs in Schools involving Group Training Organisations - Good Practice Principles

Work Exposure and Work Placement Programs in Schools involving Group Training Organisations - The Views of Employers, Students and their Parents

Work Exposure and Work Placement Programs in Schools involving Group Training Organisations - Case Studies of Good Practice

Undertaken by Group Training Australia and release in May 2014, the report finds that VET in Schools (VETiS) programs play an important role in giving students a real life experience of the workplace.

Structured workplace learning and work exposure provides multiple benefits including improving engagement and retention in school, providing an understanding of the vocational pathways available, encouraging the development of employability skills, and improving literacy and numeracy skills.
