3 reasons to take on an apprentice through a Group Training Organisation

15-Nov-2013 All across Australia, businesses like yours are tapping into the power of group training in order to save money and time while taking on young, enthusiastic apprentices and trainees.

Here are three reasons why you, as an employer, might want to consider taking on an apprentice or trainee through a Group Training Organisation (GTO) this summer.

Affordability

Taking on new employees - be they full time staff or apprentices – can be a time consuming endeavour. Organising paperwork, off-the-job training and wages and entitlements can become a significant cost in time and effort.

With a GTO, you get all the benefits of a new apprentice with none of the administrative burden. This is because the GTO is the legal employer and enters into the training contract with the apprentice or trainee. So the GTO takes care of the administration and management of your apprentice.

Flexibility

One of the best aspects of taking on an apprentice through a GTO is that it gives your business added flexibility and adaptability, in comparison to taking on an apprentice or trainee directly.

In an ever-changing economy it can be difficult to predict what your business requirements will be one year, six months or even one month from now. This can make business owners apprehensive when it comes to signing on to a 3 year training contract.

However, a group training organisation allows you to maintain flexibility around the length of time you host an apprentice or trainee. If you ever find that your apprentice or trainee is no longer needed, they can easily be transitioned to a new host business.

Convenience

Finally, working with a GTO is a far more convenient and productive way to take on an apprentice or trainee, as the GTO will be able to take care of all of the time-consuming paperwork and administrative duties.

For time-poor business owners this can be a huge benefit, as it allows you to take on new apprentices and trainees and offer them valuable vocational education and skill development opportunities, whilst maintaining the efficiency of the wider business.
