GTES: working for the community, not for profit…

15-Jul-2014

Now approaching its 30th year in business, GTES is a community-owned company launched to facilitate the flexible and easy employment of apprentices and trainees for Riverina businesses.

From humble beginnings, employing around 20 apprentices as the Riverina Group Training Company in 1985, GTES has now managed the successful training of over 4000 people.

In 2004 GTES opened its very own purpose-built Group Training Centre in Wagga Wagga, expanded operations into Victoria and adopted the name GTES - which stands for Group Training Employment Specialists. GTES has now become a name synonymous with flexible and simple apprenticeship and traineeship employment in Southern NSW and beyond.

Employing an average of 280 apprentices, trainees and labour hire workers, GTES has become the Riverina's largest employer of apprentices and trainees. GTES currently manages the employment and training of apprentices and trainees for more than 140 businesses, including local sole traders and large multinational companies. This was achieved through a combination of community support, dedicated staff and directors and by continually providing great service.

As a generic Group Training Organisation (GTO), GTES operates in all industries, with a strong focus on traditional trades - such as automotive, building & construction, engineering and electrotechnology.

Group training is the core business of GTES who recruit apprentices and trainees, match them with suitable local host businesses, then induct and employ them, managing their employment and development throughout the entire term of their training contract.

GTES also offers labour hire, permanent recruitment and payroll services to assist local businesses.

“We Care” is a core value of GTES who focus on building caring relationships with apprentices and trainees as they assist them with both personal and professional development. Bringing a culture of success based on professionalism, fun, dedication and passion, GTES recognises the most important element of any business is its people and strives to be an employer of choice and a role model for their host businesses and the wider community.

As a not-for-profit organisation GTES supports the community in a number of ways, including presenting the GTES Award for exceptional performance in Vocational Education and Training (VET)-related subjects at over 30 high schools. Additionally, the GTES Board of Directors selects a local charity to support each year, and also partners with the Bidgee region NRL and Riverina AFL competitions as well as sponsoring the Kooringal Softball Club.

GTES believes strongly that recognition is the best form of motivation and has therefore created its own annual awards program that recognises and rewards the next generation of leaders to achieve their goals.

When you consider the number of qualified tradespeople, now running their own businesses, whose careers began through GTES during the past 30 years you start to realise the significant contribution GTES has and is making to skilling the workforce.
