Indigenous Enterprise Employment Program delivers local employment outcomes

12-Mar-2015

The Indigenous Enterprise Employment Program, a joint initiative of Acclaim Apprentices and Trainees and John Pearson Consulting, is giving Indigenous jobseekers in Caboolture an opportunity to embark on a new career.

The program provides the administration and training support that job seekers and employers need to ensure the successful completion of an apprenticeship or traineeship. It also encourages the development of personal strengths, self-esteem and effective work practices.

The Indigenous Enterprise Employment Program is funded by the Queensland Government’s Joint Group Training Program, Innovative Initiatives Funding and has capacity for 20 positions.

According to Acclaim Business Leader, Jan Marsh, the 12 jobseekers who have commenced the program so far are achieving great results.

Caboolture Carpentry apprentice Ethian Toby was the first participant to enrol, and commenced with Eastwood Carpentry in October 2014.

“(I’ve learned) the importance of being a team player, observing Workplace Health and Safety practices, measuring techniques and cutting straight lines,” Ethian said.

“I have also learned that it is important to be punctual and to work as quickly as possible whilst maintaining quality, as well as the benefits and advantages of working and saving money.”

“My immediate goal is to complete my qualification and to obtain my builders’ licence. My ultimate goal is to build my own home and be able to assist my extended family.”

Acclaim Apprentices and Trainees is a not-for-profit Apprentice Employment Network organisation, operating in the Caboolture and Sunshine Coast regions. Following an amalgamation with Community Solutions in 2014, the combined organisation now provides a more diverse range of employment solutions for employers and jobseekers, as well as a range of Health and Wellbeing Services.

John Pearson Consulting delivers a range of specialist services and programs tailored specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. JPC consistently delivers successful services which utilise the wisdom and knowledge of Elders and harness the strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to achieve outstanding results.
