Support and Skills for Indigenous Job Seekers

21-Apr-2015

Skill360’s Vocational Training and Employment Centre (VTEC) program was able to give Cherry-Lee Yeatman the support and skills she needed to become more proactive and confident about looking for work.

Through VTEC, Cherry-Lee started work in January with My Pathway through Community Apprenticeships Australia as a Business Administration Trainee. She is loving her job, enjoying being part of a friendly team and the variety of tasks that she gets to deal with every day.

“The VTEC program gave me a positive approach towards what I was aiming for and taught me how to apply for work and market myself professionally.” said Cherry-Lee. “I would recommend the VTEC program to anyone wishing to get into employment or to gain further experience or knowledge. It is a great opportunity to market yourself individually and to have that extra support is really great.”

Cherry-Lee’s career goal is to one day be a supervisor or manager and wants to gain as much experience as she can in different roles within an office environment while getting further qualifications.

Skill360 Australia is proud to be the VTEC for North Queensland as part of the Group Training Australia consortium which operates VTEC services in Western Australia and Northern Territory in addition to Queensland.

Skill360 has many years of experience working with employers and Indigenous job seekers to develop successful employment and training outcomes. With a dedicated team of Indigenous staff the Skill360 Indigenous Skills Centre is focused on working closely with local communities, elders, businesses and other stakeholder organisations to create real career outcomes for Indigenous jobseekers.
