Today's Skills: Tomorrow's Leaders

07-Sep-2016

Australia’s top group training apprentices and trainees took the next step in their career development by participating in an intensive career and leadership program to help equip them as future leaders.

The Today’s Skills: Tomorrow’s Leaders program brought together 16 outstanding apprentices and trainees, selected from some 25,000 group training apprentices and trainees across Australia.

All are employed by group training organisations and are regarded as emerging leaders in their fields. They are engaged in industries including electrical, construction, horticulture, plumbing, hospitality, carpentry, power generation, and voice and data communication.

The program, now in its 13th year, was officially launched by GTA Patron, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia at Government House on Tuesday 30 August at Government House.

Career development and leadership training was conducted at the Australian Institute of Sport by Ian Hutchinson from Life by Design.

Participants were able to interact with elite athletes from the AIS, and also spent a day at Parliament House where they met parliamentarians to discuss their responsibilities, achievements and leadership motivations.

The Chair of Group Training Australia (GTA) Mr Stuart Diepeveen said the program provides a unique opportunity for some of the country’s most promising apprentices and trainees to extend their leadership abilities.

“All those selected show enormous potential to become leaders in their fields. It is a real honour to be selected for the program and I’m sure that we will be hearing much more of their achievements in the years ahead,” he said.

A list of participants is attached with the program media release.
