Group Training National Standards Launched by Minister Nelson
Dr Brendan Nelson, Commonwealth Minister for Education, Science and Training launched the new quality assurance framework for Group Training Organisations (GTOs) at the Menzies Hotel in Sydney on 30th May 2003.
Around 120 employers, GTOs, government representatives and VET stakeholders were present to hear the minister speak passionately about the importance of quality opportunities for skill development. (Click here for transcript of speech)
Dr Nelson said the new National Standards and logo meant employers, apprentices and trainees can be confident in knowing the GTO had passed a national quality test, and been given the quality stamp of approval.
The launch provided an opportunity to showcase the strengths and benefits of Group Training Organisations and the talent and experience of apprentices and trainees from the Hospitality Training Network, (HTN) was evident throughout the evening.
Rye Cunningham, a highly awarded former HTN apprentice now working at Darleys Restaurant at Lilianfels in the Blue Mountains, gave an insightful and entertaining glimpse of life as an apprentice chef and backed this up with impressive flambe demonstration that turned up the heat for Dr Nelson and ANTA CEO Moira Scollay.
